Produktbeschreibung:
Fifth International Conference at the Institute of Mining Engineering I (BBK I) of RWTH Aachen University, 14 - 17 June 2011
Band 10 der Reihe Aachen International Mining Symposia (AIMS)

The presentations in this volume were held on 14 - 17 June, 2011 on the occasion of the 5th International Conference "Sustainable Development in the Minerals Industry" (SDIMI 2011) at the Institute of Mining Engineering I (BBK I) of RWTH Aachen University.
As the mining industry worldwide recovers from the economic crisis, the question of how the industry will meet the demands of the triple bottom line are in focus more than ever. Thus, the challenges and the opportunities for the stakeholders in the process of Sustainable Development gain an ever increasing importance in our society.
Given the necessity of an economic and resource efficient extraction of mineral raw materials on the one hand and its impacts on society and environment on the other hand, the SDIMI 2011 conference will deal with the latest trends in this area and show the road ahead.
SDIMI 2011 is the 5th in a series of international conferences dedicated to the issue of Sustainable Development in the minerals industry worldwide. This conference series is jointly organized by the Institute of Mining Engineering I of RWTH Aachen University (Germany), Virginia Tech University ( USA) and the Technical University of Crete (Greece).
More than 70 international papers illustrate different aspects on practicing sustainability, sustainable supply chains, mineral resources policies and governance, critical primary resources and natural resources management in Europe and worldwide, sustainability reporting, advances in LCA & SDI and social sustainability.
